Music For and From the Soul

Things ain't been great at the Nest, so I haven't posted in a long time.  I was dreading this time of year (holidays and birthdays) after my mom died in January.  However, it's not as bad as I thought it would be, and time truly helps heal all wounds.  But, my father made a discovery that made things a whole lot better around here for me.
Some people think Southerners just like Country music, and that's far from the case.  Southerners love all kinds of music.  Music is an important part of our lives.  I love to sing, play the piano, and strum my ukulele (although it's hard to do all three together! LOL!).  I met many of my long-time and best friends through music.  I was in a couple of small-town musicals, in the high school band, and in the high school chorus.  Most of those people I met back then are still my friends to this day, and I thank God for each and every one of them.

One day, I heard this beautiful song. The singer's voice was magical. It touched me so much that I found myself tearing up, and heading toward the living room (where the music was coming from).  My father was listening to a duet of "Pie Jesu" (no, not like a bakery good...it's Latin) by Andrew Lloyd Webber. Oh, I could carry ON about Mr. Webber and his talent, but for now, I'll stick to this one song and one of the singers.  The singer was a South African opera singer by the name of Kimmy Skota.  Apparently, she can sing jazz, soul, and gospel as well.  Well, of course she can!!!  She is SUPER talented.  Unfortunately, I guess she doesn't perform like she used to do.  But, you know the internet is FULL of stuff, and she continues to entertain through it.  Her voice is effortless perfection, sweeter than a peach.  Here is the video my father was watching on YouTube from AndrĂ© Rieu Channel:
Now, some of you may not know one lick of Latin (myself included), so I found the English translation to this song. Not only did this video make me cry, but the translation...TORE.ME.UP.!!! Please read them and the story behind the song here.

Oh, yes, the other singer, Mirusia Louwerse, is amazing as well, but the next song that my dad played sealed the deal on my love of Kimmy Skota. This song reaches it's most awesome part toward the end, but the song is amazing as well...lots of feels here, y'all!  Here is the video on YouTube from Emmanuel TV Channel:
So, I guess this post got a little longer than I thought it would, but that's typical, isn't it? I wanted to share this beautiful person and music that touched my heart when I needed it most. Ms. Skota, if you're out there and somehow find this post, thank you. Beauty is truly everywhere.

P.S. I have LOTS of makeup and nail stuff to post about, so I'll be posting more real soon!
